**** “At some point in its history, every community that has ever been at the sharp end of economic change needs a show like White Gold, the intense and often beautiful spectacle stage at the Greenock Sugar Sheds over the weekend… what marks White Gold out as an exceptional show is the force with which it integrates both community and professional casts and the dazzling range of theatrical techniques, its grandeur and its strange joy.”
Joyce Macmillan, The Scotsman
At the old gateway to Glasgow, now the gateway to The Glasgow Commonwealth Games, stories flow from the mouth of the Clyde…
White Gold was an ambitious, site-specific performance set in Greenock’s iconic Sugar Sheds. Brought to the warehouse for storing, sifting, refining and presenting, White Gold was woven together from vivid and touching stories gathered across Inverclyde.
As the audience walked through the show, artists, performers and 200 citizen performers brought narratives to life through drama, movement, original music and breathtaking aerial performance. Surprising, poignant and deeply moving, White Gold gave the community of Greenock top billing while the nation stared in its Commonwealth Games year.
